When doing a search for parenting information online or in a bookstore (both secular and Christian), a plethora of information on parenting skills are readily accessible. In one large Christian bookstore I perused, there were three large bookcases full of excellent books on how to raise children with all of its practical tips and suggestions of what to do during the different stages of children’s developmental growth and how to assist parents with coping with their challenges.
What you do not find on the shelves is the essentials to train up a parent in the way they should go. In fact, there was only one book that dedicated two chapters to the subject of parenting preparation and a person’s family background. In my estimation, ninety percent of the resources available assist with how to raise children, not in examining how the parent grew up and what effects their childhood background plays in their ability to parent their children.
To my dismay, I have yet to come up with a list of Christian authors who have taken an entire book or even a few chapters to discuss the concerns of biblical parenting insight.
